For choral singers worldwide, the Latvian Song Festival is a bucket-list dream. Now you can experience it firsthand! Through the 2028 Festival repertoire, you will sing the exact music that thousands of Latvians will perform the following year.
I will guide you through our traditional vocal techniques, phrasing, and the deep cultural context behind the music, sharing the stylistic elements that define the Latvian choral sound. We will culminate in a joint concert alongside local Latvian choirs. This massed choir setting will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the immense power, unity, and spirit of the Latvian Song Festival tradition.
Patriks Kārlis Stepe (he/him) is a conductor of the internationally-acclaimed Youth Choir Kamēr..., Head of the Choral Conducting Department at the Alfrēds Kalniņš Cēsis Music Secondary School, and Artistic Director of the Mixed Choir Beverīna.
Known for his expertise in both contemporary and classical repertoire, he has collaborated as a guest conductor with the Latvian Radio Choir on projects such as Decibels, Vasks. Brauns. Šmidbergs., and Jaunā pasaule. His diverse artistic portfolio also includes serving as choir director for the opera Baņuta (2021) and the site-specific theater production Visi putni skaisti dzied (2023), and serving as a conductor for the XIII Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival (2025).
An award-winning musician, Stepe won 2nd Place, the Audience Prize, and the St. Jakob's Choir Prize at the 3rd Fosco Corti International Conducting Competition in Italy, and was named Cēsis Municipality's Creative Artist of the Year for 2025. He holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, with additional training at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. Additionally, he serves as a regular expert on the Latvian Radio 3 programme Orfeja auss.
