Global Music students from the Sibelius Academy invite you to a hands-on atelier where you can explore music from different traditions around the world.
Learn short songs, listen to the stories behind them, and experience their rhythm by trying out simple dance steps. An opportunity to sing, move, and connect across cultures!
Puro Paju (they/them) is a Finnish musician, educator, composer and improviser. They work as a lecturer at the Global Music programme in the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki. In this multicultural and innovative program, Paju leads ensembles, global rhythmics, bass, pedagogy, and community engagement projects as well as intercultural music education and embodied rhythmic tools for choir conductors. They are also one of the founding members of the Inspiration Course for Global Choir Leadership and the improvising vocal collective Aito.
As a performer, Paju works as a bass player, singer, and multi-instrumentalist in various ensembles and musical theatre productions. The ensembles range stylistically from pop, rock, and jazz to global music genres. Paju has worked extensively with Latin American and African rhythm cultures; Cuban music is especially close to their heart. Paju has a passion for performing as well as pedagogy and education. They strive for creative, collaborative and corporal musicianship and teaching.
